I can remember my mother reading the papers to my father about the growing troubles in Europe and the eventual outbreak of war. I can remember the topic and their horror and concern. My father was the right age to be drafted, and I suppose this was a worry to my mother.
World War II saw our way of life begin to change forever. The depression was over, there were jobs with good pay in Halifax and Dartmouth. And, of course, the young men were going off to war.
As I wrote earlier, I have made no attempt to put these memories into any order. In reality, I do not believe that I could. Logically some obviously come before others, but I do not remember them in any particular order - that is the trick of memory. These memories are what remain of my first ten years - Jeddore in the 1930's.
